Conductance and conductance fluctuations of narrow disordered quantum wires.

چکیده
In this paper we present and discuss our results for the conductance and conductance fluctuations of narrow quantum wires with two types of disorder: boundary roughness (hard wall confining potential) and islands of strongly scattering impurities within the bulk of the wire. We use a tight– binding Hamiltonian to describe the quantum wire, infinite perfect leads, a two–terminal Landauer–type formula for the conductance, and the recursive single-particle Green's function technique. We find that conductance quanti-zation is easily destroyed by strong scattering. We also find that Anderson localization poses a serious restriction on the high carrier mobility predicted in quantum wires. Conductance fluctuations in narrow quantum wires are not, in general, universal (as in the metallic regime), but can be independent of the wire length over a short range of lengths.

Anisotropic universal conductance fluctuations in disordered quantum wires with Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interaction and applied in-plane magnetic field
We investigate the transport properties of narrow quantum wires realized in disordered two-dimensional electron gases in the presence of k-linear Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interaction (SOI), and an applied in-plane magnetic field. Building on previous work [Scheid, et al., PRL 101, 266401 (2008)], we find that in addition to the conductance, the universal conductance fluctuations also f...
متن کاملConductance in quantum wires by three quantum dots arrays
A noninteracting quantum-dot arrays side coupled to a quantum wire is studied. Transport through the quantum wire is investigated by using a noninteracting Anderson tunneling Hamiltonian. The conductance at zero temperature develops an oscillating band with resonances and antiresonances due to constructive and destructive interference in the ballistic channel, respectively. Moreover, we have fo...

متن کاملConductance statistics in small GaAs:Si wires at low temperatures. I. Theoretical analysis: truncated quantum fluctuations in insulating wires
We analyse in detail Mott's variable range hopping in one dimension, expanding on earlier work by Raikh and Ruzin. We show that the large conductance fluctuations in disordered insulators result from a subtle interplay between purely quantum phenomena and geometrical fluctuations arising from the energies and locations of the impurities. Our results compare very well with both experiments and n...
متن کاملZero-bias anomaly in one-dimensional tunneling contacts
We study the Coulomb interaction effects on the tunneling conductance of a contact constructed of two parallel quantum wires. The following contacts are considered: two clean identical quantum wires, two disordered identical quantum wires, and asymmetric contact of one clean and another disordered quantum wires. We show that the low-voltage anomaly of the tunneling conductance is less singular ...
